Landscaping has been practiced for centuries. Since the Mayans, humans have been modifying the land for aesthetic and functional reasons. Landscaping entails the planting of plants, modifying the existing topography, and constructing structures.
Today, landscaping refers to the process of designing, developing, and maintaining gardens that enhance the aesthetics of a home and provide an area for outdoor activities. However, this is typically accomplished through landscape contracting for the purpose of creating an elegant landscape and design.
With proper planning, design, and construction, your outdoor living space can become a multipurpose space for relaxing, entertaining, and playing. Additionally, custom backyard landscaping may increase the monetary value of your home. When tackling a backyard landscaping project, it’s usually best to approach it strategically; therefore, spend some time researching landscaping ideas and gathering your backyard materials before diving into your backyard makeover.
A good design and layout of lawns and gardens can inspire and motivate. It can uplift your emotions, provide comfort, increase the curb appeal of your home, and inspire others in your neighborhood to create beautiful landscapes in their yards.
Ever wonder why grass is so green? Most grass features such a lush and beautiful green appearance because of Chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is an organic chemical found in most plants, and it’s responsible for giving plants and grass their green pigment. Most landscape design revolves heavily around the cosmetic appearance and maintenance of a healthy lawn, but there are some other great tricks that landscapers and landscaping construction companies use to create beautifully aesthetic landscape designs, and many of them you can do yourself to improve the appearance of the outside of your home, or business.
To start it off, landscaping does more than just create an aesthetic and relaxing environment for the outside of your home or business. In fact, landscaping is great for the environment. Trees improve water quality by slowing and filtering falling rain water, and trees actually protect aquifers and watersheds. Additionally, planting more trees and shrubs renew our environments air supply by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. The amount of oxygen produced by an acre of trees per year actually equals the amount of oxygen consumed by about 18 people annually. But you don’t have to plant an acre of trees to help improve our environment’s air, one tree produces nearly 260 pounds of oxygen every year!
Believe it or not, investing in a quality and thorough landscape design can actually be a smart financial decision, too. According to the American Public Power Association, by strategically placing plants and shrubs to provide shade near the windows and walls of a home, you can reduce air conditioning costs by up to 50 percent. Furthermore, recent research from a Clemson University study shows that quality landscape can provide a 100 percent or more return on the investment by increasing the value of your home.
With winter in its final stages, and spring just around the corner, the time will be opportune for business and home owners to not only improve the appearance of their landscapes, they can improve their energy efficiency, and the environment as well. Working on your landscape is also great exercise, and what better way to start enjoying the warmer weather than to get outside, grab some exercise and some fresh air? So go ahead, plant a few trees, improve your landscape, help the environment, you’ll be glad you did!
