Are you looking to enhance the curb appeal of your home by installing new home windows? It may seem like you have so many options to choose from and you won’t ever be able to figure out what the best windows for your home are. No need to worry because we have come up with a list that explains the different types of residential windows available so you can make the decision on what option is best for your home!
Before you buy new home windows, you need to ask yourself a few questions. They include:
- What are my needs? Do I need windows that will keep out light, or windows that are energy efficient and will lower my energy bills?
- What is the insulation value?
- Will your electrical company and home owner’s insurance be able to give you credits for this purchase?
- How long will they take to install? Is this feasible for your family’s needs?
- What is your budget?
Once you have figured this out, then it is time to decide on what kind of windows you’d like! Here are some of the options to choose from.
Double Hung Windows
These are the traditional windows that you are most likely thinking about when you think of replacement windows. They have two sashes that slide vertically up and down within the frame allowing to open about half of the window’s length. These types of windows do not protrude out of the frame and are great for smaller living spaces.
Casement Windows
These windows are opened by a crank on the bottom of the window. They only open out, so they are good for windows on the perimeter of the home.
Awning windows
Awning windows open outward and can swing either to the right or left of the window. Because of their versatility, they can be installed above, below, or next to a stationary window for more air flow.
These are three of the most common windows available to your home. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask your nearest window installer and you will get the home windows of your dreams!
